Book Review: 'The Asocial Networking' by Dhiraj Kumar

Reviewed "The Asocial Networking" written by first time author and dear friend Dhiraj Kumar:

This book is a collection of thoughts – write-ups which are not lengthy enough to be called chapters, or short enough to be called paragraphs. & the good thing about thoughts is that they are the best way to get inside the author’s mind. They flow freely and without restraint, and without a clear cut objective. That is why “The Asocial Networking” is a book not like many others.

The book tends to define the idiosyncrasies of human behaviour online, mostly on Facebook. It is really a delight to read the humorous and sometimes pinching analyses of our actions on the Web. The author scrutinizes each and everything – Comments, Status Updates, Photos and Friend lists and brings out striking correlations between personalities and how they reflect on FB. To me, this book is a refreshing breather to most other novels that are being dished out by Indian authors nowadays: most of them celebrate the online world and stoically consider it as an integral part of our lifestyle. And here comes this one with an irreverent, critical take on it all. The book is realistic as well, probably because the author comes across as a normal human who is trying hard to understand relationships and people, rather unlike other celebrated writers who seem to have conquered everything achievable in life like success, love and respect. At the time of writing, Dhiraj has most certainly not, which is much evident from the reading. I wish him luck on his journey.

All said and done, I do not say that Asocial Networking is perfect: it tends to get a little verbose in parts where a lot of non-familiar words are being used which might put off some readers. I also felt that the format and structure could have been better defined. But these are matters which can be ignored for a first time author.

A recommended companion for your coffee table collection.
